No, but you can get it for very very cheap from an online bookstore. Try the link below.

Where can I find an online geometry and algebra textbook?

for geometry, i need a prentice hall mathematics geometry book. it is the one with like a wheel on the front, and also has like a magenta color with geometry in yellow caps.

the algebra textbook has a guy kayaking, and they have a graph according to the slope of the oar. its like red on the front too.

i went to pearsonsuccessnet.com and it deleted my book or it expired or something. high school is about to start and i really need to study b/c i forgot all agebra, and i need to get ahead in geometry, so it would really help if i could get the same version online.

i fyou find it on pearsonsuccessnet.com, i need the class codes, but if u find it newhere else, that would really help too! thx!Where can I find an online geometry and algebra textbook?
Pearson is a commercial publisher. If you want THEIR books, you will have to pay for them. Contact them. They will be more than happy to sell you a copy.

If you think you should be covered through your school contact them at technical.support@pearson.com

However, they are not the sole source of mathematical knowledge, and definitely not the best. Do a web search for "Online Algebra Textbook" and "Online Geometry Textbook" for many free sources. Of course, most authors can only put a limited effort into a resource they are giving away for free, so many of these will be as bad as Pearson's offerings.

Help me find an access code for an online textbook!?

i have a book:

Prentice Hall Precalculus 3rd ed.

or Blitzer Precalculus 3rd ed.

the book is like 1200 pages and im trying to find it online. does anyone know how to get the access code i need for the book?? please help!!Help me find an access code for an online textbook!?

A website that actually HAS the answer key (it can be copied out of the teacher's textbook.?

I'm looking for these answers. They are in Prentice Hall's Algebra 1: California Edition.

39. x^2+20x+99

40. x^2-20x+96

41. x^2-21x-72

43. x^2-25x+144

44. y^2-21y+108

45. a^2+a-132

46. a^2+9a-90A website that actually HAS the answer key (it can be copied out of the teacher's textbook.?
What's the question? Is it factoring?

If so, it's not that hard to just do the work. I'll show you the first one.

In factoring, if the second sign is a plus (like 39, 40, 43, 44) then the signs of both factors are the same as the first sign (so both + for 39, both minus for 40). If the second sign is a minus, then the factors have one of each (so for 41, one - and one +).

Next you want to find factors of the last coefficient than can be combined to give you the second coefficient. In your first problem there, factors of +99 are 33 and 3, or 11 and 9. 11+9 is 20, so you can factor this equation into (x+9)(x+11).

Let's go through the last one as well. Factors of -90 are -3 and 30 (or 3 and -30), 5 and -18 (or -5 and 18), 6 and -15 (or -6 and 15) and -9 and 10 (or 9 and -10). Which ones can we combine to get 9?

-3 + 30 = 27 and -30 + 3 = -27. so nope.

5 + -18 = -13 and -5 + 18 - 13, so nope.

-6 and 15 = 9. yes!

So we can factor this equation (a-6)(a+15).

Factoring is a difficult process to explain; you have to work at it until it "clicks." Learning to think algebraically like this is an extremely valuable skill, however, especially if you plan any further study of math or to ever do anything with computers.

It took me far less time to solve these myself than to even attempt to google a key. Cheating rarely saves time! Learn to do it yourself.A website that actually HAS the answer key (it can be copied out of the teacher's textbook.?
you could find a torrent of the book, or just suck it up and do the work. you probs wont find it. sorry.

    SOCIAL STUDIES HOMEWORK HELP!!!!!!!!!!?

Okay so, i have this social studies homework. Its about America but America in the 1600's. Its about Toleration's and Puritans and Pilgrims, all the things that occurred in and before the 1600's. The question they asked me was: How was the land farmed in the Tidewater region ans in the Virginia backcountry? Anybody know??? PLZ PLZ PLZ I REALLY need the answer to this question. Oh and the textbook I'm using is 'Prentice Hall AMERICA- History of our nation'SOCIAL STUDIES HOMEWORK HELP!!!!!!!!!!?
The first site below talks about the Pilgrims in Massachusetts. However, the Virginia area planters tended to clear woods land and plant tobacco as a cash crop, which depletes the soil. Rather than use crop rotation or fertilizer, the colonists simply cleared more land. This decreased the amount of wildlife, the amount of area for hunting and gathering food for native Americans, and did nothing to prepare for the droughts every three years , more or less.

The second site has some paragraphs on farming in Early Virginia.

Where can I find this book?

I either lost or never got this textbook I need for english and I'm not in trouble but the teacher has no more to give me so I want to try and get one on my own but can't find it anywhere. I looked on amazon, ebay, and an online library site. It's by prentice hall and says literature on it and has either one or 2 women on it.Where can I find this book?
try indigo.com, I don't know how much info you need to do it but they'll order one for you even if it's out of print I think, Anyway, it's worth checking out.

If you can get one from one of your class mates for a minute copy the numbers off of the barcodeWhere can I find this book?
borrow a friend's textbook and find the website on there...order one. i know its a short answer but it helpsWhere can I find this book?

Don't these theories conflict with this scientific principle?

Prentice Hall Physical Science - Concepts in Action textbook states on page 483: "Spontaneous changes will always make a system less orderly, unless work is done on the system." Okay, so how can the theory of Evolution be compatible with that statement? Many scientists believe that the Big Bang instituted the evolutionary process. But just look at its title: the Big Bang. How can a 'spontaneous change' such as this result in increasingly improving organisms, as theorized by Evolution? How could 'work be done on the system' when there was no definite source to cause the work to be done in the first place?Don't these theories conflict with this scientific principle?
%26gt; "Prentice Hall Physical Science - Concepts in Action textbook states on page 483: "Spontaneous changes will always make a system less orderly, unless work is done on the system." Okay, so how can the theory of Evolution be compatible with that statement?"

I'm afraid this is a re-statement of the "It violates the second law of thermodynamics" agrument against evolution.

The second law applies to a closed system - one which is receiving no matter or energy from an external source (input of energy being the "work" referred to).

Organisms are systems which increase in order over time as they grow - the "work" is them receiving energy in the form of food or sunlight (if plants). If you cut-off that energy, the organism dies and breaks-down (as predicted by the Law).

Life on earth similarly does increase in order through evolution - and its source of external energy is the sun (almost all life depends on it directly or inderectly). Plants capture the energy, which is then used by herbivores, then carnivores, etc.

%26gt; "Many scientists believe that the Big Bang instituted the evolutionary process."

Actually, no scientist believes this (and any source which says this is the case is either mistaken or deliberately lying).

The Big Bang is a model describing the origin of the universe from a singularity - it does not address the origin of life, nor how life changes with time.

%26gt; "But just look at its title: the Big Bang. How can a 'spontaneous change' such as this result in increasingly improving organisms, as theorized by Evolution?"

As I said - it doesn't. The Big Bang model, more correctly called the "Cosmic Inflation Model", merely says that the universe is expanding in all directions, therefore once it must have been smaller - infinitely compressed, in fact.

%26gt; "How could 'work be done on the system' when there was no definite source to cause the work to be done in the first place?"

f you are asking here "What caused the Big Bang?", then the answer is we don't know (and it is mostl likely impossible for us to know).

But - the idea that everything must have "work" done to it in order to occur (a version of the law of causality) is an aspect of the physics of our universe. since any origin or cause of the Big Bang was (obviously) "before" or "outside" our universe, there is no reason to suppose that causality holds. It could indeed have happened "just because"

Furthermore, we know that - even within our universe - causality does not always hold. Subatomic phenomena (such as radioactive decay, the emission of a photon from an electron moving to a lower energy-state, etc.) can and do happen without any cause. Since the singularity that was the "seed" of the Big Bang was just such a subatomic phenomenon (a point of zero volume and infinite density), it could still have happened with no cause.

%26gt; "(1) The Big Bang eventually, regardless of the time lapse, led to the evolutionary process of life, ultimately meaning that it started the evolutionary process."

If that is the case, you should be arguing about how the Big Bang caused gravity to appear first - since gravity caused matter to collapse and form planets and stars (without which no life is possible, so far as we know).

%26gt; "(2) How could the Big Bang not be a "spontaneous change"? It is a random %26amp; sudden explosion; that sounds like a "spontaneous change" to me."

It is not an explosion - it is an expansion, and it is still going on (the universe is still expanding).
dude, i think you have a terrible understanding of everything you just mentioned.

the first signs of life on earth did not come around for about 9-10 billion years after the big bang, so therefore the big bang is completely irrelevant to your statement. it did not "institute the evolutionary process." and it is not the kind of spontaneous change that the quote is talking about.

what the quote means by a "spontaneous change" would be something like an meteorite falling down and changing the climate. over time, that change would cause many species to die off, and the ones surviving would then be forced to adapt, as to suit the new environment.

you make it seem like evolution is when things just "magically change." thats not how it works dude. i suggest you go do some actual research, although you probably wont.

anyways, i dont expect you to understand ANY of this, and because of that, you will overlook this whole thing... you dont have the slightest idea of what you are talking about.Don't these theories conflict with this scientific principle?
Go troll the biology section with your creationist nonsense.
The "work" done on the system of evolution could be loosely described as "survival of the fittest"

It's not easy to figure out how to use your new appendages that look like a tree branch, it takes work. Once you've established some "order" to your spontaneous change, your change becomes useful. Adaptation in and of itself is useless unless the change made results in better survival, which in turn can only be shown by putting your change to the "test" or "work". This results in the passing of said changes along, but ONLY useful changes are passed along, and to identify what change is useful or not, you use it in your environment with either positive or negative results.Don't these theories conflict with this scientific principle?
    Syntropy.

    Also known as negentropy.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negentropy
    - Simply put, you need to read more than just page 483.

You are incorrect in all of your premises, and there isn't enough time or space to correct them here, assuming you actually want to correct them.

Re: your after note - All but one of these answers appear to be honest attempts to respond to your question. We don't know you, we only know the question.
I know evolution and science. You are dead on in most of what you say.

Science deals ultimately with only two things, the necessary and the contingent.

What you mentioned is contingent, by definition. Unless evolution can be shown to work by necessity, it is self-contradicting -- literally from the start, as you point out.
"Spontaneous changes will always make a system less orderly, unless work is done on the system."

Unless work is done on the system - you seem to have overlooked this bit. Life is, in part, a metabolic process. Living things perform work using enzymes and metabolic pathways that evolved with single-celled organisms. An enzyme is a protein molecule that acts as a biological catalyst - they can speed up slow chemical reactions and make reactions happen that wouldn't ordinarily occur just by being there.

These enzymatic and metabolic pathways include the Krebs cycle, the electron transport chain, glycolysis, the generation of ATP, photosynthesis, and the like. Similar but simpler biochemical' processes powered by photons from the sun were in place before life emerged. These processes, now captured and controlled by living things, have the potential to continue as long as the sun shines and the proper nutrients are available.

Your best bet is to call around to used bookstores. If you're in a college/university town, start with the schools' bookstores first.

You would probably get more money selling them online (e.g., on Amazon), but it sounds like that's not an option for you.

Highly doubt it. If so, that secret would have been known a LONG time ago (and probably shut down).

If you buy it from a store, just photocopy the pages you need and return it. Or maybe they have a copy on "reserve" in the library. Can you share it with one of your classmates or maybe borrow it for a few days? Unfortunately, some books you will have to just buy.Is there a website that you can read a whole college textbook, so that you do not have to buy the book?
I don't think there is such a website. Your other alternative however is going to your school's library and borrowing that book. In most universities the library has at least one copy of every book that each professors use.Is there a website that you can read a whole college textbook, so that you do not have to buy the book?
I doubt it. The company would probably go bankrupt if they did that.
You probably will need to go buy the book. At my school we have a system that is set up on facebook where you can buy books cheaper from other students so you don't have to go through the school. You can then sell the book using that too and get more money back.

    Spanish Textbook Differences?

Hi everyone, I plan on taking Spanish 2 over the summer at Ashworth Online College. However, the textbook they sent me, Realidades 2 from Prentice Hall, is not the one we use at school, which is the McDougal Littell En Espanol 2. I started to wonder if different textbooks teach different things, so today I borrowed the McDougal Littell book from a friend who is currently in Spanish 2. As I flipped through the pages of each book, I could see noticable differences in the vocabulary as well as how they teach the grammar.

My main question is, is there some sort of national curriculum in Spanish that textbooks have to follow? Will I be able to test into Honors Spanish 3 at the beginning of next year even though I learned different vocabulary than what people normally learn? Also, if any of you have any advice on what to do in my situation, please comment.Spanish Textbook Differences?
I have never used those books, but I have noticed differences in many math, english, and chemistry books. I am fluent in spanish so i don't have to learn it in school. You will NEVER find books that follow the same curriculum. They are all written by different people that explain things in a different way. Now, I know that when it comes to a language it should all be alike (since there is no other way around in grammar or spelling, like there is in math for example) But as you read them thoroughly you will see that at some point, you will learn the same rules for writing and speaking. one may have something in chapter 3 while the other book teaches it in chapter 17. But either way you will be fine, If you are not comfortable, maybe you should get both books and use the two at the same time. I have two different geometry boosk, for example, and it is so much better like this cuz i learn more and i find things to be easier in one book than the other.

hi. my school has used that text book for highschool year1 or secondary1. It's a great book especially if you want to learn about the fundamentals of algebra. It starts off with the basic properties in algebra and ends with basic lessons in advanced algebra like probabilities. aside from algebra, it also covers a bit geometry like the pythagorean theorem. also, it has a lot or word problems you can ponder on. it also has basic trigonometry. i'd really reccomend this book and the books of prentice hall. my school has been using geometry, algebra2 and advanced algebra w/ trigonometry books by prentice hall and its helped many high students...good luck!:DDoes anyone know an understandable, thorough algebra textbook?

So look into that, I think you'll benefit from it.

    U.S. History help!?

After the constitution was written, why did some people oppose a national bank. (My history textbook is Prentice Hall The American Nation Beginnings Through 1877. It was copyrighted 2000U.S. History help!?
While I don't have access to your textbook, I can give you some insight and maybe it can help you find the related passage in your book.

Jefferson and Madison thought that not only was a bank not necessary, it would put all the economic power in the cities, and it was a perversion of the Constitution. They were strict constructionists and thought the Constitution should be taken literally.

Many leaders wanted the wealth to stay in farmland and agriculture. They felt that one day Americans would wake up to find that they didn't own the bank, but rather the bank owned them. They really though that it was an evil idea. They believed that the bank was being created as a way to scam people out of their money. Basically they were afraid of big government.

you can probably buy it used on amazon or ebayIf i wanted to buy a school textbook would i be able to?
You can buy all sorts of textbooks on ebay or amazon.com. They are often more than half price off. You do not need to buy the same text you used since almost all algebra 1 texts cover the same stuff, because of Bush's education policy. tThe books do not present the material the same way so you should look at sample pages.

You can also get cds that can teach you algebra and all sorts of other math. These can also be found online and are very very inexpensive.

If you want to buy them from a store, Borders or Barnes %26amp; Noble carry some and can order the one you want, though if I were you I would not buy the one you used but some paperback review book. $15 is a lot better than $100.

Check used book stores. There is one where i live called Half Price Books. They are not nationwide but I know they are a growing chain. They have lots of textbooks and math cds at incredible prices, like five or ten dollars

    Good luck.

I am glad you are passing with a C but as I found out when I was about your age, math is not like history. In history if you bomb the Revolutionary War, you do not need to know any of the material to pass the exam on the Civil war. In Math if you do not learn the stuff at the B+ level you will always be struggling with it. Good luck.
    Hey!

Like the others, I recommend Half - If you don't know what it is, it's Ebay's "Sister" website, so it has a high reputation and is reliable. If you haven't heard of it, it's basically a website for people to sell and buy used textbooks. People tend to sell their textbooks at really discounted prices, so that's advantageous for us buyers :) These books are very cheap because when stores don't buy back books, students will do whatever they can to get rid of their books... and so they go on this site and well them at "dirt-cheap" discounts.

You will NOT find these discounts at bookstores or online stores such as Amazon!

I'm going to list a few of the POPULAR beginner algebra books that you might want to buy. They are published by Prentice Hall and I will include their Retail price and discounted price:

(Note: If you want a specific book that your school definitely uses, then click on one of these links or my source and go to the website and then do a search... otherwise, just check out these popular algebra books)

    3. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-鈥?/a> Beginning Algebra - Retail is $134, but prices are around $15.

To find a bookseller - go online with Amazon or B%26amp;N and look up a book - when you see the used book sellers - send them an e-mail and ask if they will bulk sell.

Your best bet is to have the local schools give you the old versions - you can go to larger cities and ask schools there - if they are upgrading - can you have the old versions.

Another options - have parents donate - or buy from them.

How did Mansa Musa, Sonni Ali, and Askia Muhammad change their kingdoms? (African history)?

And if you have this textbook that I'm using called World History: Connections to Today (volume 1) by Prentice Hall, look to page 284 - 288 for the answer. Thanks :)How did Mansa Musa, Sonni Ali, and Askia Muhammad change their kingdoms? (African history)?
. Askia Mohammed I of Songhai (ruled 1493-1529, died in 1538 AD)

Emperor of the Songhai Empire of West Africa

Sonni Baru Dao, ruler of the Songhai Empire, was also a follower of a traditional African religion and rejected all attempts to convert him to Islam by Muslims in his empire. After several weeks of negotiations and no conversion, the Muslims resorted to battle. Backed by a large section of the army, the Muslims triumphed in April 1493. This brought Mohammed Tour茅, a former general, to lead the empire. He took the title 'Askia' and all those who followed him took the same dynastic title. A devout Muslim, Askia Mohammed I made a pilgrimage to Mecca in 1496. One thousand infantry and a cavalry detachment of 500 horsemen accompanied him. He also took 300,000 gold pieces. In Mecca, Askia met the Caliph of Egypt, the Pope of the Islamic church. Askia requested that the Caliph appoint him as his religious representative in West Africa. The Caliph agreed. Askia Mohammed returned to Gao in 1497, with a new title. He was now the Caliph of the Western Sudan, spiritual ruler of all the West African Muslims.

The empire Askia inherited from the Sonni Dynasty was already massive, yet he expanded north, east and west by conquest. Ultimately it would cover an area about the same size as all of Europe. By 1514 his armies captured the Hausa Confederation of northern Nigeria. Next to capitulate was the city of Agades in Niger, and finally the regions to the far west of the empire around the Atlantic. As the kingdom grew into an empire, Askia Mohammed I came up with new methods of government, establishing a strongly centralised administration. Among the most important posts were the Minister of Treasury, the Minister of Tax Collection, the Minister of the Army and Navy, and the Minister of Trade and Industry. In some territories, the Askia allowed the regional kings to rule as they had before, just as long as they paid tribute. In other territories, the Askia created a parallel post to the local governor called the mondyo (i.e. inspector), who formed the official link to the imperial Songhai government. Askia Mohammed I died in 1538 and was buried in a Step Pyramid at Gao. He is fondly remembered as Askia the Great.

http://www.whenweruled.com/articles.php?鈥?/a> -------------- Mansa Musa I ascended the throne of Mali in 1312 AD. He was, perhaps, the most colourful personality in West African history. Of this monarch, Dr DeGraft-Johnson, a Ghanaian historian, wrote that: "It was in 1324 鈥?that the world awoke to the splendour and grandeur of Mali. There across the African desert, and making its way to Mecca, was a caravan of a size which had never before been seen, a caravan consisting of 60,000 men. They were Mansa Musa's men, and Mansa Musa was with them. He was not going to war: he was merely going to worship at Mecca. The huge caravan included a personal retinue of 12,000 slaves, all dressed in brocade and Persian silk. Mansa Musa himself rode on horseback, and directly preceding him were 500 slaves, each carrying a staff of gold weighing about six pounds (500 mitkal). Then came Mansa Musa's baggage-train of eighty camels, each carrying 300 pounds (three kantar) weight of gold dust. This imposing caravan made its way from Niani on the Upper Niger to Walata, then to Tuat, and then on to Cairo. Mansa Musa's piety and open-handed generosity, the fine clothes and good behaviour of his followers, all quickly made a good impression. One might have thought that a pilgrimage to Mecca undertaken with such pomp and ceremony would have ulterior political motives, but no such motives have ever been adduced." In Egypt, Musa spent so much money in gold that he devastated that nation's economy. "

During his return journey from Mecca, Musa heard news that his army captured Gao in 1325. Sagmandia, one of his generals, led the victorious invasion. The captured city of Gao was a great prize. Al-Idrissi, the distinguished author mentioned earlier, described it as a "populous, unwalled, commercial and industrial town, in which were to be found the produce of all arts and trades necessary for its inhabitants". Tim Insoll from St. John's College, Cambridge University, carried out important excavations in Gao. Some of his finds were on display at the British Museum at the time of one of our visits. Particularly intriguing was an exhibit entitled: "Fragments of alabaster window surrounds and a piece of pink window glass, Gao 10th - 14th century." Musa made a detour and visited the captured metropolis. In this city, he received the two sons of the Gao king as hostages, Ali Kolon and Suleiman Nar. He returned to Niani with the two boys and later educated them at his court.

Musa I embarked on a large building programme, raising mosques and universities in Timbuktu and Gao. In Niani, he built the Hall of Audience, a building communicated by an interior door to the royal palace. It was "an admirable Monument" surmounted byHow did Mansa Musa, Sonni Ali, and Askia Muhammad change their kingdoms? (African history)?

My advanced calculus textbook is horrible. It is very poorly explained without any examples at all, 99% of the time. The exercises have no connection whatsoever to what the chapter explains.

I can find way better books than this in advanced calculus on amazon.com and they're far more helpful.

I do not know why my university almost always prefers textbooks by Pearson, Prentice Hall for science and technology courses when there is so much variety out there.

I'm moving with the class average grade (which is D so far). You have scores like 61 or 67 as average on exams, which does not even qualify to be C grade.

I feel whoever the person to decide what of kind of book to be used is doing a horrible job and has little or no knowledge at all of the course.Who in a university, decides what kind of textbook the course should use?
Usually it is the prof who picks the text ... after that look to division chairs and on up the line. It is said elsewhere here that many times deals are made with publishers ... that is probably where the problem "lies" ... personally I would talk to the prof ... if everybody is having the same kinds of problems then it would seem that the prof would know about it and want to do something to help.

In the end it may be too late to help as this semester is coming to a close very soon ... it is though, the perfect time to start making noise about it ... very loudly too. That way when you retake the course they might have a decent text to teach it.

It's kind of ironic you mention Pearson,Prentice Hall ... I pulled out my old Calc 1 %26amp; 2 books from back in the late 90s and guess who they were done by ... yep, Pearson, Prentice Hall ...
First of all, understand that there have been so many mergers and acquisitions in the publishing industry that while there used to be a lot of choice, in many cases, you are lucky to find one or two texts on a subject matter these days. My colleagues and I are extremely frustrated by the lack of options out there for most of the things that we teach. There are now only three major providers of texts in my field, with a few others which try to have an impact, but which usually are poor at follow-through and which rarely offer the "packages" offered by the major companies.

Secondly, there are generally two ways in which textbooks are chosen. For courses taught by a number of different faculty members, the book might be chosen by committee. That is often the case for "intro" courses. In other cases, generally the individual instructor picks the text. The only exception I've seen is where the instructor is listed as "staff" - in other words, they don't find a part-time teacher until the last minute - and then usually it is the department chair who places the order, generally based upon what was used the last time the course was taught. I've never heard of a situation in which "the university" prefers certain texts. If it seems that way, it may be that the rep for one company is more attentive than those for the other companies. At our school, we had one rep for years who was the only one who regularly met with faculty. The others sent promotional materials, but never talked to us. When we had a problem with a text, we knew we could count on that one rep to handle it, but most of the others were pretty pathetic.Who in a university, decides what kind of textbook the course should use?
Ah, but the publishers make deals with the schools and there are perks involved.

I'm curious though, you said you found other books that are more helpful, then why are you still getting D's? That makes no sense. If the information and concepts are the same, then you should be able to pass the tests and assignments regardless of which book you used. Maybe you're just not smart enough.

Besides, harder upper year classes are meant to weed out the hopeful graduate school candidates from those who are actually capable of advanced work, or at least that is my suspicion.
Have you express your feelings to the instructor and the department/division chair?

Textbook selection starts with the faculty...either a single faculty member who is teaching the course...or a group of faculty if a number of them teach the same course number.

Some schools have a process by which the text selected by the faculty must them be approved by a committee. But different schools have different processes.

Some campuses have a process called "shared governance" which strives to include all campus communities in the process of running (governing) the school. If your college has this, you should explore the issue with the student representatives involved in shared governance.

In the end, the quality of your education rests primarily with you and not with the school, instructor or textbook. If you have found books that work better for you, there is nothing stopping you from using them to study and apply the learning to your current course.

Hope this helps. Best wishes.Who in a university, decides what kind of textbook the course should use?
Usually the instructor decides which book he/she will teach from. In some cases, though, the Department may be responsible for deciding the text.

Sometimes the publishers give discounts to schools in order to entice them to order books from them. In my experience, Pearson is widely used at my school...but they have been very good textbooks.

I forgot my literature book and i need it for homework. Maybe theres an online textbook?

I was wondering if there might be an online version of Prentice Hall 鈥?Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes, Bronze, Student Edition, on the internet.

does anyone know where i can find it?I forgot my literature book and i need it for homework. Maybe theres an online textbook?
Some schools buy online rights to textbooks but then your school would have given you a special code to use it.

But textbook companies want to make money. They are not going to give their books away free online.

But many schools do give copies to local public libraries for students to use to do homework.I forgot my literature book and i need it for homework. Maybe theres an online textbook?
a public library would have it if you are that desperate.I forgot my literature book and i need it for homework. Maybe theres an online textbook?
There is a Prentice Hall website,

I use that so I don't have to bring books home,

so most likely your lit book will be there.

Does anybody know any links to go to so that I can go use an Online Biology Book?

Which writers (of our generation) will be in the high school textbooks of the future?

There are a lot of writers out there who make the New York Times best sellers list and are read widely, but will Stephen King and Toni Morrison be recognized and studied as a part of high school curriculum? It's a strange picture when writers of our generation deal explicitly with more topics like the three well-known "dirtys": sex, drugs and violence; the topics a hefty-load of people enjoy.

The times are changing and so must our curriculum, shouldn't it? How far is high school- the base of an 'education'- going to go in terms of content? Which of 'our' writers would Prentice Hall accept?

Will literature in school continue to be "something that everybody wants to have read and nobody wants to read" for future students?Which writers (of our generation) will be in the high school textbooks of the future?
Unfortunately, most schools have their students read "classics." Books like Huck Finn and To Kill a Mockingbird. Some schools do have their students read more modern literature but you can't shy away from the classics. Classics can often be more difficult reads because of language variation. Honestly, this generation doesn't generally enjoy classics, although I have to say I did like To Kill a Mockingbird. But all books schools uses are the things that "everybody wants to have read and nobody wants to read." Why? It'ts been proven that when students are forced to read books, they don't want to read them, and they also don't want to read other books for pleasure. I honestly don't enjoy reading older literature as much as more modern literature, and I think it's seriously time to say goodbye to Mark Twain and William Shakespeare and start reading more enjoyable books written in this time period, but that's just me and many will argue against that.Which writers (of our generation) will be in the high school textbooks of the future?
I studied Morrisson in high school, so it's a safe bet that she'll be popping up even more in the classrooms of the future. Other than that, I'm not really sure which modern writers will end up being studied.

Honestly, I'm a fan of the classics. I love Dead White European Men, and I feel no shame about it.

Wow, that is quite a list. I cannot be as specific as you'd like, but I'll try to point you in a decent direction.

The first approach I would take if I were in your shoes is to ask your teacher if they know whether there is an online source for the textbooks. Some publishers do have those nowadays.

If your teacher is unsure, then try doing a google search of the publisher and search through their webpage. If you don't see anything that seems to get you what you want, there is probably a "contact" link that you can write them an email to and make that inquiry to them directly.

    Do you agree or disagree?

"Science can neither prove nor disprove that unobservable or supernatural forces cause storms, rainbows, illnesses, or cures of disease. Supernatural explanations of natural events are simply outside the bounds of science. Although science is "a way of knowing," it is not the only way."

Source: Prentice Hall Biology textbook :)Do you agree or disagree?
Agree, keep in mind science works on the assumption that a god doesn't exist.......eg. evolution anyone?

Can there ever be a scientific definition of "good" or "morality"?

Can science explain how the randomness of the Big Bang came and produced the complexity of life? The tilt of the earth? All the observable laws of nature?

Can science explain the people during their time of month giving me thumbs down?
Science finds reasonable and reasoned natural explanations for repeatably and reliably observed natural phenomena.

It does not deal in supernatural explanations; and because it does not deal in them, cannot say yea or nay to them. But what it can and does do is to provide you with a means of establishing and testing those natural explanations. Does the explanation cover *all* of the observed phenomenon? Does the explanation provide some prediction that can be tested? Does the explanation include a way of establishing an observation that would, if discovered, prove it erroneous?

Supernatural explanations can never satisfy these criteria; acceptable scientific explanations are acceptable because they *can*.

I suspect that this was the purpose behind that section of the Prentice Hall book.Do you agree or disagree?
I agree to a certain extent, I think if science dug deep enough into the supernatural they would find many unsolved answers.. By not taking into account that God exists means the supernatural avenue is closed for science, if science always looks towards the obvious events then they'll always miss the inconspicuous events..

Edit: Also one of the answers said that science is only for natural activities or processes..

I'm asking all science buffs to tell me where is it stated that science is solely for what we see as natural processes or to put it a different way who says supernatural activities are unatural really..

How does anyone really know that, i mean if you go back a few hundred years what would you have called radiowave signals and infrered signals..

They would be known as the supernatural.. Supernatural is only a word to explain natural activities that are somehow more super..
Science and Religion are separate and essentially unrelated fields. The goal of science is to understand the mechanisms of how the the Universe functions, not why it functions that way. Questions of supernatural entity or the nature of God(s) are religious, and based on faith. Since faith is acceptance without demonstration while the scientific method requires rigorously tested, repeatable, and peer reviewed demonstration prior to acceptance the two have nothing in common. A scientist can, therefor, be religious or not according to his own understanding without it in any way impacting on his scientific work.

The statement that there are ways of "knowing" other than science is a matter of your Philosophic viewpoint. Plato believed that we only know what we can prove, all else we simply believe. Each person must decide for himself what is acceptable to him, personally, as being proof, but he has no right to expect or require that other people lower or ignore their own standards to accommodate him.Do you agree or disagree?
The Father of Science, Bacon, explicitly put final causes outside the bounds of Science, so, yes, the text is correct.

    "

Bacon separates distinctly religion and philosophy. The one is not incompatible with the other; for "a little philosophy inclineth man's mind to atheism, but depth in philosophy bringeth men's minds about to religion." Bacon has been sometimes regarded as a defender of unbelief, because he opposed the search after final causes in the interpretation of nature. But it is one thing to discourage the search after final causes in science, it is another thing to deny the existence of final causes. "I had rather believe," he says, "all the fables in the Legend and the Talmud and the Alcoran than that this universal frame is without a mind" (Essay on Atheism). The object of scientific inquiry should be the "form," not the final cause."

    http://www.malaspina.org/baconf1561.htm
I agree that a god could step in every single time certain circumstances are about to occur, and cause the results we see, but it's a little far fetched, so I would disagree with your conclusion that science "is not the only way." What other way could we possibly discover how the world works than Science? What you are suggesting is that the laws of Physics don't work, and it's god who gives you AIDS when you sleep with someone that has AIDS, it's god who clots and repairs your wound when you place a bandaid on it, it's god who paints rainbows every time the sun shines through misty skies.

Occam's Razor says that where there is a good simple explanation, there is no need to bring complicated deities into consideration. Probably my toe hurts when I stub it because of physics and anatomy, probably god doesn't see I stubbed it and come down and pinch it. But if he did, there would be no way of detecting this, so saying that there are other ways to knowledge is not correct.

Observing and asking questions, doing research, hypothesizing, testing, analyzing, correcting, repeating, these are how we learn about the world around us. Everything else is a coincidence of circumstance, evidenceless situationally dictated belief.
    Agree :)

Actually, a post I just wrote to someone else's answer would be relevant here as well. I am going to paste it here as it addresses your subject, I hope this is ok.

"I think it makes a lot more sense, logically, that we were created than that we are a supreme mistake. Think of everything that exists in the world. The diversity, the complexity. Is it really easy to believe there were billions upon billions of 1-in-a-billion-chance mistakes?

It is especially difficult to swallow the "cosmic blunder" theory once you begin to realize that Science makes up just as many (if not more) "facts" as Religions do. Most things we consider "fact" are actually theories that have never been "proven" in the traditional sense. They are guesses and what ifs. Don't you remember learning the basis of the scientific method in school? Something is "proven" if you can not DISPROVE it. So by scientific standards, we can "prove" deity as well.

    ~Anya"

I think many people are under the misconception that science is all about cold hard facts, proven beyond a doubt. They forget, or maybe never knew, how that "proof" process takes place. Many don't know what science is at all.

    Science

鈥搉oun 1. a branch of knowledge or study dealing with a body of facts or truths systematically arranged and showing the operation of general laws: the mathematical sciences.

    2. systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation.

    3. any of the branches of natural or physical science.

    4. systematized knowledge in general.

    5. knowledge, as of facts or principles; knowledge gained by systematic study.

    6. a particular branch of knowledge.

    7. skill, esp. reflecting a precise application of facts or principles; proficiency.

So Witchcraft can be a science. I bet that makes a few people's heads spin!
Storms= precipitation (rain), separation of ions in clouds cause electricity to build up (creating lighting and therefore thunder)

Rainbows= illusion caused by photons hitting water vapor

illnesses= genetics, and external factors, and germs

cures of diseases= faith healing is obviously a joke, so I presume you mean when SCIENCE finds cures for diseases....
    False on both accounts.

We can trace the causal chain of events that lead to natural phenomenon such as rainbows, and illness. If the entire chain is not broken by unexplainable impossible events, we know that the supernatural played no part in it.

Science is the ONLY way of knowing. The alternative is bullsh** philosophical explanations based only on human imagination. If we resorted to theologic explanations for natural phenomenon, gravity would be explained by Intelligent Falling.

I pity you - you are getting a crap education.
    What are you talking about?

Rainbows are made when the light spectrum of the Sun shines through water vapor in the atmosphere. This we know through science.

Storms happen when the Sun heats the Earth and cold pressure rushes in where the heat has risen, causing wind. We know this though science.

About 85% of diseases have been identified and cures have been made through science.

There aren't any supernatural forces involved in these processes.

The reason why more storms are happening is because idiot humans especially Americans are pumping endless CO2 into the atmosphere and causing the temperature to rise more often, thus as I explained heating the Earth more causes more cold air to rush in, therefore more storms.

Science doesn't even attempt to explain a supernatural presence in this process, when the natural evidence is self-evident.

As for what you describe as 'supernatural', that is merely what scientific technology has yet to explain, at some point it will.
I agree. If it's unobservable, science can't do anything about it. After all, one of the steps in the scientific method (which we're all so familiar with, i'm sure) is observation. And as a Christian, I can say that while I think that science is right one some things, it isn't right on everything, so it can't be the only way of knowing, but just a way.

By the way, wish I had had a biology book like that...mine never said a word like that.
Anything that gives people any idea that they can cure themselves supernaturally, I disagree with. That's dangerous. That's how kids die from something easily treatable, like diabetes, because their parents think prayer is all they need.

I don't care if you think rainbows come from God, but attributing illnesses to the supernatural is, again, extremely dangerous.
    Sure.

How can one explain a "supernatural" occurrence with naturalistic means.

Then again, by the same token supernatural events do not take place in a natural existence, otherwise such an event would in fact be natural, as it must conform to be observed naturally.
there is no such thing as the super natural world, nor god, jesus, hell, heaven ect. Science should be the only way so we don;t have so many wars about which god is the right god. All religion is the same with all the same stories about some guy doing something good and people following him, why people have use the excuse of god to do something good doesn't make much sense to me. Science disproves it all but i dont really care. i am alive now what does it matter where i came from or where im going to end up.
i agree. im amazed at people who look at science like it provides for all things. God gave us scientific and rational sequencing and thought, but not only that. faith is rooted in logic but goes beyond it. they are not contradictory but complementary. mature faith realizes God is able.
No, I completely disagree. Science has proved that storms, rainbows, illnesses and cures are all caused by natural processes. If a natural cause is known, there is no reason to speculate on whether a supernatural cause or explanation may exist.
    What a crock of crap.

This is equivalent to trying to tell someone that they can successfully pick up a turd from the clean end.

SEMANTICS. Of course you cannot prove or disprove ANYTHING that is unobservable!
"...Supernatural explanations of natural events are simply outside the bounds of science. .." Science has nothing to do with the supernatural.

There is nothing supernatural about the universe.

How well does the explanation, "Goddidit" float with you?
While this is true, this is like saying:

"Science can neither prove nor disprove the existence of fairies."

Though technically a true statement, do we really need to give much consideration to such outrageous suggestions?
I agree. The supernatural is beyond the scope of science, at least for now. That is in no way proof that God and spiritual beings don't exist; just proof that we have no quantifiable way to measure or detect them.
    Agree.

Science also cannot disprove the existence of gods, but including statements like that in a biology textbook is a disservice to science education.
The purpose of science is to understand the natural world-not the supernatural. Religion explains the supernatural.
science is a "way of knowing" the facts of life, religion and spiritulism is not

These superntural beings can be disproved by admitting they dont exist
science of finite minds cannot explain infinity,

science cannot explain how a heavy bumble bee can fly,

science cannot explain what makes a baby take its first breath,

    so I agree :)
That is one sad, misinformed heap of a biology textbook.

PS "englishbiblefan" do you have any idea what you are talking about?
Agree. Most scientists agree on intelligent design anyway.

Campbell and Reece is easily the best General Biology text I've used.

    Have you read the giver?

i also need help with this question below

Research the literary meaning of the word 'allusion,' I would suggest using your Prentice Hall Literature textbook. Then, respond to the following question: The name Jonas is a variation of the name Jonah. In the Bible, the prophet Jonah was commissioned by the Lord to proclaim judgment upon a sinful city. Why might Lois Lowry have chosen Jonas as the name of her main character?Have you read the giver?
because she didn't want to name him Jesus.Have you read the giver?
An allusion is a figure of speech that makes a reference to, or representation of, a place, event, literary work, myth, or work of art, either directly or by implication (in this case the Bible). You can see the similarities between Jonas in the Giver and Jonah in the Bible.

some of the Biblical allusions such as Jonas's and Gabriel's name, and the Christmas-time setting, a condemnation of religion.

The Giver gave Jonas information that revealed the secrets of the society, just as the lord revelased to Jonah to proclaim the judgement on the sinful city.

How about a calculator. Although I suggest doing the work yourself.

    Actually, that wasn't sarcasm.

    You are welcome.

    Earth science textbooks?

I'm looking for a high-level earth science textbook for school. (Either high school advanced placement or college level). Anyone have reccomendations? It has to be very informative and accurate, and cover a broad range of topics.

One reccomendation I've gotten is "Earth Science" by Tarbuck and Lutgens / Prentice Hall. Opinions about this book would also be appreciated.

How to study math (college student)?

I'm a sophomore in college and I scored "college level" on my algebra placement exam. I didn't take a math class in college yet ... and I'm not sure what to expect. Also I want to say that I only took 3 years of math in high school (so I don't know any trig or calculus).

I am a 4.0 student and I want to keep it this way. I've decided to buy my prentice hall math textbooks from high school (algebra 1 %26amp; 2) to review before the college level class. I know I will do ok ... but ok is not good enough, I want to get an A.

What else do you recommend to bring me up to speed? (books, sites, anyithing that has value)How to study math (college student)?
There are many good books, probably including you present course textbook. A couple of hints though:

Math is highly conceptual... trying to learn formulas by rote is doomed to failure in most cases

Get your hands dirty... do lots of extra exercises

Extra texts can give you a different perspective... a trrip to the library is generally worthwhile.

If there is a type of problem you can't work, go to your teacher and see what concept you are missing

Don't get behind... keep up with the work or you can become swamped at finals... not a good time to learn new concepts or work example problemsHow to study math (college student)?
Take every opportunity to practice that you can. Many schools offer free tutoring. You should check with your school if you think you might need it.

Good chemistry textbooks for 9th-12th grade chemistry?

I've been a chemistry teacher at a medium- sized high school for some time now. The textbooks we currently have are over ten years old and we are due for some new ones. The books we have right now are prentice hall and are hard to follow, plus they don't completely cover topics as well as i'd like them to- such as sig figs, atom structure, and accuracy of measurements. Because I have the students read the chapters and do the section reviews for homework, I'd really like a book that was more self-explanatory so that the kids get a basic understanding of the material before i go over it in class. The ones we have now aren't structured very well and don't have clear definitions of the basic terms. I teach in California so i would also prefer something that will cover most of the material on the California STAR test. Any suggestions?

Good chemistry textbooks for 9th-12th grade chemistry?
I am not familiar with the CA STAR test, but I do have a few chem textbooks I can suggest:

Chemistry: The molecular Nature of Matter and Change (Silberberg / McGraw Hill) - you may be able to view parts on line. I have the 4th ed, but I believe the 5th is out now.

Kotz %26amp; Treichel have done a textbook in the past (Title was Chemistry %26amp; Chemical Reactivity). I have no idea what edition they may be on now, but it was a good text

Another I still have is General Chemistry by Ebbing. It wasn't bad, but even my old edition may be above HS level.

Finally, one used by a HS near me is "Chemistry: Matter %26amp; Change" by Dingrando et.al. - best part about this one is that there is an electronic version. Email me if you're interested and I'll see how I can get it to you.

    hope that helps

Where do you go to find Online Textbook Answers/ Cheats?

I have to do this Chemistry Homework and its do tomarrow, and i dont know how to do this Mole crap for elements, so do you know where i can find the answers to this textbook?

Chemistry ( addison - Wesley ) made by Prentice HallWhere do you go to find Online Textbook Answers/ Cheats?
Getting the answers/cheats won't help when test time comes! You're better off asking for help on the topic and learning it!Where do you go to find Online Textbook Answers/ Cheats?
You should ask for homework help instead of copy it from somewhere because you'll never get better at it if you never do it.Where do you go to find Online Textbook Answers/ Cheats?
Many textbooks have a section on the publishers website. Have you looked for that? Usually, you go to the publisher's site, find the age group(ie: high school), find the subject area (in this case science or chemistry) and then you look for your textbook in the list. One thing: the edition (year) matters.
