Prentice Hall textbooks are bad?

They are just terrible. They give only one or two VERY simple example problems and for the rest give you advanced equations without even properly explaining how to do so. I have a tough time using the books and I'm not the only one. Why are schools still using them?Prentice Hall textbooks are bad?
Are you using them in school? With a teacher? Or are you trying to do it on your own in home school? My son uses Prentice Hall Classics Algebra 1 for home school. But, he has CD lectures that a teacher made just for that book. You get them from mathwithoutborders.com.

Textbooks need a teacher too!
