Generally speaking, of course. There are plenty of 16 year olds who can handle a sexual relationship and others who have had it so beaten into their heads that sex is naughty that it can cause psychological problems.

I was 16, but I don't think you can set a standard age. That sets you up for trouble. It more depends on context, some are more mature about relationships than others. Some people have a one night stand or a very brief experience when they lose their virginity too early and that I think is the worst way to do it. It all depends on context and where you're in life.

My experience has been that most teenagers who have sex are NOT mature enough and rarely have safe sex, because they don't think they'll catch STD's or AIDS, when the truth is there is an extremely high rate of HIV positive teenagers and the most frightening thing is many teenagers have contracted HIV, don't know it and are spreading it around.
The Libs want children to know about sex at five, practiced putting the condom on at ten, and at 12 or 13 have sex and bear children. Then they can accuse those who practice abstinence as "teabaggers!" because they think controlling yourself, is such a terrible thing.



In this society, why make things difficult for yourself? Save the sex until after college. Condoms break and birth control fails. Balancing taking care of a child, holding down a job-- at least the one Obama hasn't chased away yet, and going to school is tough.
