There really is no average, it should atleast be twice a week for married couples-but there is no average. There is many factors that weigh in on the sex issue including, stress-occupation/physical, over-working/work, or simple too much to do. Even if none of the above are there, its perfectly normal to not have sex often, but simply enjoy eachothers company. But young couples usually have sex more than twice per week. There can't be an average for this. It all depends upon your stamina and your partner's zeal. Same even after the the kids are born.
id say at least a couple times a week or at least once for newbies and old. its important to keep the romance and sex alive in a marriage.
if at all possible when you are newly married you should make love at least 7 times a week after a year or so you should try for 14 times a week
I'd say every night for newlyweds, and then once its been a few years, whenever is the right time.
