How long after abortion is it safe to start having sex and bcontrol?

I had an abortion :( Notting I ever want to do again :( How long is it safe to wait till I can star bcontrol again and Have sex?How long after abortion is it safe to start having sex and bcontrol? It is important to wait 4-6 weeks after an abortion to have sexual intercourse OR to insert anything into the vagina. Your body needs that time to heal. Birth control takes about a month to kick in, depending on which method you choose, so if you plan to have sex before a full month of being on birth control, your partner should wear a condom.

Don't let the heartless wenches who slandered you make you upset. They don't know your situation, nor why you aborted. They have NO right to judge. How long after abortion is it safe to start having sex and bcontrol?

How long after abortion is it safe to start having sex and bcontrol? My doctor said 14 days however my boyfriend was leaving for Iraq on day 12. We had sex, it was so painful but I was fine medically. I waited to start my birth control because I wanted my hormones to settle down since I was an emotional wreck.

I guess this didn't happen for you, but some clinics give you birth control counseling (and a free first month of pills) when you go in for an abortion. They also should have told you about after care. They advise that you start the birth control the Sunday following your procedure - you can take it that soon. If you don't do it then, you should wait until your next cycle. This likely won't happen before you go in for your follow up appointment either at the clinic or with your regular gyno, which you should have 4 weeks after the procedure. After you start birth control, you should wait a full cycle before you have any sort of unprotected sex (of course pills don't protect against STDs).

You should not have sex for at least 3 weeks after the procedure, nor should you put anything in your vagina or take tub baths. Take all of your antibiotics - you do not want an infection.

To the rude answerers: if you don't want to answer a person's questions, don't answer it and move on.How long after abortion is it safe to start having sex and bcontrol?I would wait until you have stopped bleeding from the procedure or two weeks. Whichever is longer, this is so you do not get a wicked uterine infection. You do not want to have sex when your cervix is still open. You can become fertile quite soon after an abortion or miscarriage so please use birth control. You canstart the birth control when you stop bleeding.

Please ignore these yahoos calling you names and judging you by their standards.

It is entirely possible to have an abortion and not feel guilt because you knew it was the right thing to do.

...after an abortion it is always recommended to have a follow-up exam three (3) weeks later by the clinic where you had your procedure...or if they don't do follow-ups then by your own physician...they should have explained this to you...

...this is very important...you really do need a full pelvic exam to know your abortion was totally successful with no residuals and to check for any infection or source of possible infection in the future...you also need a full pregnancy test at the same time...sometimes there are complications that can only be identified a few weeks after your procedure...and you want a healthy reproductive system from here on...

...at that time the doctor will probably say you are free to engage in sexual activity or give you a time limit of a few more days after your exam if all is normal...but you should also talk to him about birth control at that time...what kind you want %26amp; what he recommends...depending on the type you choose, you may have to use condoms plus an over-the-counter second type of contraception until your prescription takes effect...
hi river, I am not exactly sure until it's safe, but you did the right thing for you. I think it may be up to six weeks though.

I can't believe how much judging you have had on this - they have just confirmed the negative stereotype of Americans. Congratulations guys. This lady has made an informed choice. Leave her alone. How long after abortion is it safe to start having sex and bcontrol?
TO ALL OF YOU PEOPLE JUDGING HER...DO YOU THINK THAT GOD LIKES RUDE PEOPLE? You all can go to hell and burn there. You know nothing about her situation and I'm sure that her reason was valid so lay the f*ck off and stop being being rude to people.

To answer your question, after an abortion, they usually tell you to come back in 3 weeks. Until then you can't have sex or else you'll get an infection. Once you go back, they should offer you birth control. That's usually part of the price you paid for the abortion.

If they don't offer you birth control don't be afraid to ask. If it makes you feel better I had my first done. I don't regret because my situation was bad. Now I'm staying on birth control pills and learned from my mistake, so f**** those who say you shouldn't be thinking about sex. Your only human. If you want to talk just email me.

God bless
Its her own decision, you don't know all of the factors in this.

Don't bash her when you don't know her.

And I'm sorry I dont know your answer I was just upset by the other comments. :)
Why would you ever want to have sex again. you took a life. why would you want to take another. because once you pop it you cant stop it. you should though, this has already happened once to you, why even take the chances of getting pregnant again?

i suggest joining a convent.
