If being gay isn't a choice how can they be "formally straight"? Most people can distinguish rape from normal sex. If it is consentual then there was no force thus it wasn't rape thus.. I am confused.

I wouldn't say that having whatever sex was available makes one that sexuality. Like if you were stuck with a transvestite or something and had sexual urges, that doesn't suddenly make you interested in dating transvestites or whatever just because you choose to bonk them (as there is no one else around).
